Steel and aluminium are both popular boatbuilding materials that are very resilient and have high strength. Due to its high strength and flexibility, steel is mainly used in hull construction and for building larger yachts and ships, whereas aluminium is also used for weight-saving deck structures on steel ships due to its low weight. Both metals corrode, albeit differently, and should be protected with a good paint system.
